Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 21093
Word-Import/-Export: problem with text within one line left- and right-aligned
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:36 UTC
In the writer its possible to have text within one line left- and right-aligned, if it is seperated by a tab. (Document 1 of attached ZIP.) But If I save such a file as .doc-file, close it and re-open it, it is not left- and right-aligned anymore. First I thought this is because MS-Office does not support this feature. But If I re-save this document in the .sxw-format it still cannot be done as described. (Document 2 of attached ZIP.) Now I have to copy the content by copy&paste into a new document to make this feature working again!

I cannot confirm... neither with a new document nor with the attached file (it saves and reopens fine). Might there be any other settings influencing this behaviour? - ASK
I can Reproduce the problem on OpenOffice 1.1 (default Install, US), Win XP Pro Sp1. (And MS Office XP Sp2). It is real problem to reproduce: open the left-right save as word open in MS word. all is in right side, including when it is opned using OOo

I'll explain, what's happening: On export, the behaviour Word has with this formatting, is emulated. Go to Word and enter the Tab like you did in Writer before - you'll see, that the text won't expand to the left and right of the line. Responsible for that emulation is the compatibility option "Align tabstop position" in "Tools.Options.Text Document.General". This is always activated (must be) when Word documents are imported. As you can see, there is nothing to fix for Writer. Word behaves differently, Writer is eble to emulate Word's behaviour.
Closed, because Writer cannot handle this in a better way.
But if I save such a document as .sxw there should be a possibility to enable this function!
changed issue type to feature
Yes, that's what I wrote above. Use thejOption from "Tools.Options.Text Document.General" to emulate Word's behaviour in an .sxw document. Is that, what you are looking for?. BTW: sometimes you need to enter a character when you have enabled the option, because the re-formatting of the document is not started aiimmediately. This will be fixed in OO 2.0.
Thanks for this info!
